When they’re not engaging in large scale environmental projects, instilling their clothes with recycled materials and generally displaying an almost unbelievable moral compass in such a global company, Patagonia are busy trailing yet more ideas to offset their mass production of hiking and outdoors gear.
The newest application of the company philosophy is actually a rebirth of an old idea, this time with a permanence to the project. A sort of ebay-cum-Patagonia thrift store, the website WornWear is an online platform operated by the company to sell the brand’s repaired garments. In their own words, “One of the most responsible things we can do as a company is to make high-quality stuff that lasts for years and can be repaired, so you don’t have to buy more of it. Worn Wear celebrates the stories we wear, keeps your gear in action longer through repair and reuse, and recycles your garments when they’re beyond repair.” A fine idea, it also ran a college tour, promoting the new WornWear website.
