New York-based photographer Fran Gormley lays out the otherworldly beauty of the Earth’s landscapes in a series of large-format photographs titled Palette Earth.
Gormley started her career in advertising before concentrating on photography in 2006. An aerial shoot over the Camargue region in southern France kickstarted her passion for this daring form of photography — a truly ironic coincidence given her fear of heights and motion sickness.
Shot over a period of nine years, these amazing photographs document her travels to and over the countries of Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Kazakhstan and Iceland. Precariously leaning out of planes and helicopters, she captures the delineation of where land meets water, and the deep colors and textures that only nature is able to produce. “I want a photograph that doesn’t look like a photograph — that is ultimately my goal, not concreteness — I want to evoke a feeling that is unique to each person,” she says.
Her solo exhibition Above Palette Earth opens on June 30 till July 8, 2018 at the Chase Edwards Gallery in New York, coinciding with the release of the coffee table book of the same name, containing 125 full color images of her work.
