Olson Kundig Costa Rica Treehouse

A Striking Treehouse Set in Costa Rican Jungle

Olson Kundig architects deliver this dreamy treehouse cabin that welcomes the jungle and views of the rolling waves below. Built for clients who are both surfers and avid environmentalists, the Costa Rica Treehouse entangles itself with the lush landscape, building up from the densely packed forest floor through a middle level met by rising trees, and up to a sky level that emerges from the canopy. Each level engages with a different aspect of the beautiful location, with incoming weather patterns and wave sets visible from the top deck for monitoring the surf.

Constructed from teak, harvested and milled on-site, the home takes over a purposely small footprint, leaving an open and airy, finely crafted surfer hut that serves to reinforce the clients’ commitment to sustainable land management in Costa Rica.
