With its strong geometric silhouette, the CS2 House by NEME Studio can’t help but stand out — and that’s a good thing. The Denver, Colorado, residence challenges conventional design with its rectangular shed-roof structure perched atop a circular base, creating what partners Neyran Turan and Mete Sönmez describe as spaces that feel “both familiar and unfamiliar.”
The ground floor’s circular footprint houses an open-plan space, where a rotating cast of functions — home office, art studio, dinner party venue, childcare workspace, among others — takes place. Organized around a kitchen, bathroom, and double-height living area, this adaptable design reflects contemporary life’s fluid boundaries between work, creativity, and family time.
A deliberate misalignment between the circular lower level and the rectangular upper level generates unexpected outdoor spaces, including an upper-level terrace and shaded ground-floor areas that shift the building’s character depending on the viewing angle.
Working within tight budget constraints, NEME Studio used standard construction techniques while rejecting austerity in favor of what they term “new sensibilities and the possibilities of sufficiency.” The result is a home of unconventional spatial relationships—”one roof, one base, and multiple stories to tell.”
