When roughing it out in some remote cabin in the woods, nothing fills one with more trepidation than the nightly trek to some rustic outhouse to answer nature’s call. We’re happy to report that there exists an outdoor bathroom we’d be happy to stumble towards in the dead of the night. The Kangaroo Valley Outhouse by Australian studio Madeleine Blanchfield Architects was designed to mimic the experience of camping, and is set some 30 meters away from the main accommodation. Known for her purity of design and her penchant for crafting out unique spaces and experiences from any given site, Blanchfield’s outhouse is a simple cube slightly raised off-ground featuring facades completely covered with mirrors. With the landscape reflected on its surfaces, the cube completely blends into nature, rendering it virtually invisible save for the its legible edges.
And if you haven’t fully realised just how unique this outhouse is from its exteriors, then the stunning contemporary interior bath fixtures will. Equipped with a sink, toilet and a free-standing bathtub, this Aussie outhouse is pure luxury ensconced in the midst of nature — definitely a game-changer for non-camping enthusiasts.
