A project by Lea Architecture, this Brooklyn townhouse in Greenpoint was transformed for clients who split their time between New York and Sweden, taking on Scandi design elements while embracing the history and tradition of the building. The project seamlessly transformed the building into a striking three-storey upper-level residence for the clients, while preserving a commercial space and four-car garage below. 

Maximizing privacy and functionality, the redesign extends the living areas onto a patio above the garage, offering important breakout space in lieu of a garden. Patio stones were chosen to match the red tones of the brick facade, which was repointed as part of the project. Inside, clean lines define the aesthetic, with warm wooden joinery and doors providing pops of color and texture to stand out from the muted white palette. The highlight of the interior is the geometric wooden staircase, stained in a rich, warm red. Adding a bold sculptural element, the staircase anchors the home, flowing between all three levels from the kitchen to the upper bedroom where it culminates as a wraparound headboard.
