Japanese Puzzle-Inspired Stools by Studio TAMEN

Inspired by the traditional Japanese Kum-ki puzzle, Brooklyn-based design studio TAMEN created the Yose-Gi Stool, a gorgeous addition to their Designed in New York, Crafted in Japan collection.

Two Japanese techniques were used in its creation: the Yose-gi (incorporating patterns with inlaid wood) and Tusgi-te (wood joints in geometric shapes). Crafted with beautiful Japanese Hinoki cypress and Jindai cedar, the pair of stools have an interlocking system that’s a veritable space saver. Apart, they’re a pair of attractively-shaped furniture pieces with a uniquely cut geometry.

The unique design was conceptualised by TAMEN founder and creator Yoshi Ito, a Brooklyn-based Japanese artisan who incorporates traditional Japanese craftsmanship into contemporary pieces. Crafted by acclaimed furniture maker Hida Sangyo, this gorgeous furniture piece is a true labour of love from New York to Japan, and all the way to your own home.
