Architecturally arranged with a collection of artwork and furniture in mind, the LEE Residence is a study in placing the right things in the right place. Nestled in Taichung City, Taiwan, the near-15sqm apartment was designed to exist as a rejuvenating retreat for a couple, whose passions for post-1950 modernist design and furniture mean a space filled with intriguing pieces at every turn. With busy professional lives, the couple required a tranquil space that could balance bold accents and serene functionality, while accommodating their impressive collection of tables, chairs, sofas, and prints.
With a quiet, unobtrusive backdrop tailored by architects InOrder Studio, the collection is allowed to shine. Every detail was meticulously selected to ensure the maximum impact for the things that fill the space from custom air-conditioning vent panels and concealed switches to perfectly aligned tiles that highlight a soft interplay between interiors and furnishings. Yellow, blue, and green block colors define key areas like the living room, kitchen, and study, bringing warmth to the apartment. Elsewhere, material selections were made to enhance the subtle decor of the apartment, with the likes of a deep jade marble and a clinical white tile placed side by side to emphasize texture and form. The result is a contemporary modernist retreat where design and living converge.
