London’s Nottinghill welcomes the Tbilisi artisan bakery Entrée, the family-run bakery chain’s first international branch outside Georgia. And from the pictures of the newly-opened space below, we bet you’re getting some serious Wes Anderson vibes as well.
Design studio Holloway Li designed the space around the idea of a supra – a celebratory Georgian feast often held around a gathering table. This feeling is recreated by the presence of a large oval bronze-finish table at the center of the floor, with a continually replenished display of freshly-baked pastries.
The interiors are set up as a deconstructed shopfront, taking cues from the organization of a theatre: the café area is the stage, the serving area the audience, and the kitchen, partially visible from behind the counter, the backstage. Arched motifs, antique mirrors, Georgian calligraphy artworks and patterns lend a warm, domestic atmosphere; while the two-tone color palette of teal and plum, set against rough pitted plaster and limestone tiling, are a nod to the material, textural and colour palette of Tbilisi’s old town.
Referencing Georgia’s domed sulphur baths, byzantine brickwork, wooden balconies, Caucasian rugs and its repurposed Soviet buildings and monuments, Entrée brings together old and new elements, transporting us to a new country through flavour, culture and design.
