The heavy, chunky appearance of JC Arquitectura‘s Casa Huitepec facade belies the curious design that lies beyond, proving in this case that the desire for curb appeal doesn’t always have to feature highly. Although perhaps even that sells the building short, given that the hefty weight of concrete viewed from the street has a certain sense of charm in the industrial essence of its look – like a gigantic concrete periscope rising from the earth. Head down into the bowels of the home and the delicate design is revealed, with the use of marble, onyx, wood, and red earth offering a sweeping range of texture throughout the home.
The home is private and well contained without feeling overly insular due to the sweeping views from the large terrace and inner garden designed with a utilitarian theme to create a continuous flow from the home. Spread across three levels, the house delivers much more than it seems from that disingenuous façade that juts out at the side of a steep street. And who doesn’t like surprises?
