Winner of 2021’s Architizer A+ Awards Project of the Year, the ANNA Stay is a versatile wooden cabin whose walls shift and adjust to the whims and needs of its dwellers. Designed by Casper Schols, a Dutch designer with no formal architectural experience, ANNA Stay has separate outer and inner walls. Its interior wood-and-glass framework can easily be slid along a series of rails, enabling the user to customize the cabin’s layout according to weather, mood, or occasion.
Casper Schols, a Dutch designer with no formal architectural experience, is the individual behind this amazing project. Schols explains that the idea of the cabin was born from the desire to live with nature’s elements rather than cutting them off. “It’s primarily about being outside, and about creating a dynamic interaction between yourself, cabin ANNA as your home, and nature,” he says.
Similar to railway station structures, ANNA Stay’s structural integrity relies on its side walls. Carrying the inner and outer layers are eight industrial wheels that move along rails, built from natural and sustainable materials such as Siberian larch wood and birch plywood. Though designed as an off-grid cabin, there’s no sacrifice in comfort: fitting comfortably in the space are two king-size beds, a fully furnished kitchen, an indoor bathroom and plenty of storage areas. Sustainability features such as a fire heated boiler, a solar energy system and a water waste treatment system allow dwellers to be with nature. More information on the cabin here and on Instagram.
