Tequila and surfing join forces in creating beautifully handcrafted and sustainable surfboards made from agave materials. The 100% Agave Project partners up with Gary Linden, founder of the Big Wave World Tour and known for his surfboard shaping craft. A visit to the Jose Cuervo distillery in Mexico gave Linden the vision and materials to create an agave surfboard.

Linden states that the agave plant is the first plant to be used in history to build a surfboard in its entirety. He fashioned the board’s core from the agave tree, and the pulp, often used for paper, was turned into sheets which were then used as a wooden laminate. The pulp is also used to attach the fin to the main frame, and the entire board is then sealed with the sap of the tequila plant.

The 2015 Boardroom Surfboard show gave the title of Best Use of Traditional Material to the 100% Agave Project, hailing its creative use of natural resources and elevating the art of surfing to an organic level.
